Sunderland Former Players Annual Golf Day at the Ramside Golf Club, Durham

The SFPA Annual Golf Day was held at Ramside Golf Club, Durham on Friday 9th July and was sponsored by a number of local businesses, Brambledown Landscapes, Town Centre Citroen, Sport and Leisure Events, The Italian at Blakeney's and Makro as well as the Ramside Golf Club.

The event gave everyone the opportunity to win some major prizes for scoring a hole in one on any of the Par 3's. The main prize was a car - a Citroen DS3 - provided by Town Centre Citroen. No one succeeded but hopefully they will all be back next year for another try.

The main trophy - The Team Trophy - was won by CCS Mobile, captained by Chris Lee who had Jimmy Shoulder playing with them as their allocated former Sunderland player. MEM Environmental Services came a close second with Jim Montgomery in their ranks. Cec Irwin won the Jim McNab Memorial Trophy which is an individual competition for Former Players Association members only. Dick Malone, Chairman of the Former Players Association presented the trophies.

SFPA Secretary Winston Young commented: “In all, 20 teams took part and 30 Former Players were involved, either playing or helping. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed themselves, the course was in excellent condition and the clubhouse facilities were, as always, first class.”

A special mention for Michael Oliver's team - Olivers Dental Studios - also featuring former SAFC player Martin Scott and former physio Peter Foy. The final 3 photographs show Michael's team and Peter Foy realising he had gone close to winning the car with a hole-in-one, the ball coming to rest not far from the hole after it had hit the flag.
